PROGRAM AGE CATEGORIES

All Calgary Field programs are designed and developed by ELEV8 Lacrosse.  The dynamic programs aim to maximize development of players of all ages and skill levels. Throughout the summer, ELEV8’s coaching staff will teach a hybrid model of field lacrosse along with fundamentals, skills, strategies, and techniques, enabling young players to progress in an expedited fashion and develop into better athletes, players, competitors and citizens.

Practice groups are co-ed for players aged 4 to 8 and will require boys’ equipment to participate, while gender specific programming is available for players aged 9 to 19.

Mini Tyke Field Lacrosse

Program Description 

Calgary Field’s Mini Tyke co-ed program is developed and lead by ELEV8 Lacrosse. ELEV8 introduces participants to lacrosse and teaches fundamentals in an inclusive and engaging environment. The 10-session program focuses on building players’ confidence and having success.
 
ELEV8’s world-class, passionate, and knowledgeable coaching staff combine sessions with activities and games to reinforce fundamental skills.

 

Season Organization

The Calgary Field season takes place outdoors at Optimist Athletic Park during July and August.

Players Should Bring

  • Their own stick, helmet, full pads, gloves and cleats (Boys Equipment)
  • Current Calgary FIeld Uniform (Reversible Pinnie and Shorts)
  • Sunscreen, bug spray, and water bottle
  • A LOT of energy!

Players will learn

  • Proper hold and grip of a stick
  • Cradling, scooping , throwing, catching and dodging fundamentals

The Novice co-ed program is a continuation of our Tyke program.  Calgary Field players will be placed into one of two practice groups, a development practice group or an experienced practice group. The development group is designated for players who are new to field lacrosse and have yet to play “A” level lacrosse. The experienced group is designed for players who have previously played “A” level lacrosse or have significant experience. Practice groups are dependent on enrollment numbers.

Groups are structured, organized and reviewed by ELEV8 Lacrosse and primarily structured  by age, experience, skill and athleticism. ELEV8 Lacrosse will evaluate talent, ability, athleticism, effort and place players in the appropriate practice groups; no tryouts will be conducted. There may be movement between practice groups throughout the summer based on effort and skill shown by players at the full discretion of ELEV8’s professional coaching staff.

Intersquad Games

Season registration includes intersquad games designed to teach Novice to U19 players to compete in a structured, safe, and fun environment to prepare for optional Field Day competitions.  ELEV8 coaching staff are on the field providing position specific training that address the intricacies of each position and increases players’ overall lacrosse IQ.

Field Days

Optional Field days focus on enjoying competition offered through tournament play. A separate registration for field days secures your spot on a team.  Field days are open to all Calgary Field Novice to U19 registered players during select weekends in July and August, regardless of playing experience. Teams are entered based on registration interest for each event with competitive equality as priority.

Players will learn

  • Proper stick mechanics for throwing and catching
  • Groundballs: the approach and maintaining possession
  • Shooting: technical breakdown of feet, hips, arms and hands
  • Defensive footwork and positioning
  • Understanding game situations on offense, defense and in transition
  • Goalies: Form, body positioning, angles, quickness and technique
  • Confidence and Sportsmanship

Players should bring
