Inclement Weather Policy

Weather patterns in Calgary are often volatile and unpredictable. What you see out your window at 4pm can be drastically different than what the weather conditions will be at the start of practice.

If it’s not pouring rain or there isn’t any thunder & lightning in the sky at the start of practice, expect practice to go on as planned. If the weather is questionable we strongly recommend packing indoor shoes.  If indoor arenas are available and can accommodate our groups we may move indoors.

Calgary Field will not reschedule missed practices due to weather.

Practice Cancellation procedure

Optimist Facility Staff will make a final call on the status of the fields at 4:00 pm and will advise ELEV8 Staff of the same.  As a result, our team will communicate to you the same status at 4:00 pm.

Step 1:

ELEV8 Coaching staff will advise of cancellation via Twitter @ELEV8lax.

Only cancelled practices will be communicated, if there is no update, then practice is still on.

Step 2:

Notification of cancellation will be forwarded to all players via email.

Only cancelled practices will be communicated, if there is no update, then practice is still on.

The safety of players and spectators is the primary concern in any weather event that occurs during all Calgary Field practices. If it is unsafe we will ask players and spectators to move indoors.

ELEV8 Coaching staff routinely monitor lightning and thunder with Storm Pro2, portable storm tracker. The StormPro2 tracks dangerous thunderstorm activities from over 130 miles away. Generally, the lightning threat diminishes with time after the last sound of thunder, but may persist for more than thirty (30) minutes.  Therefore, our practice is to wait 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder prior to returning to outdoor practices.

Once it is safe to return outdoors Calgary Field practices will resume as scheduled.
